Virgin America truly understands the importance of being a consumer champion and fighting for the underserved. Going up against major competition with huge media budgets, it was imperative that Virgin America seek differentiation through a better experience for consumers and build a fan base along the way. This approach has allowed us to lead their biggest branding and marketing initiatives.

April Fools

People think anything Branson touches turns to gold. Truth is, guy just knows not to surround himself with yes-men. So on April 1, his favorite holiday, we decided to chug the corporate Kool-Aid to see how different things could be—and we started with the logo.

  -- Featured on Fast Company, USA Today, Time, Mashable, Condé Nast, PopSugar, CBS, Adweek -- 255,000 video views and 250 million impressions in 24 hours   With no paid media, this jab at corporate bullshit earned an ad equivalency value of nearly $4 million. And because we say things like ad equivalency value, we made sure to poke fun at our own bullshit with a site dedicated to fictional creative agency  N_Fuzion . Virgin America is the official airline for the San Francisco Giants. Every year they hold Virgin America Day/Night at AT&T Park. We were tasked (with the help of pitcher Sergio Romo) to create a digital activation that encouraged fans of both Virgin America and the SF Giants to play ball - see what I did there. We created #RestingPitchFace/RestingPitchFace.com. This activation allowed fans to create their own Pitch Face. The user took a selfie, the selfie's output was placed into a branded baseball card and they could then share on Facebook and Twitter.

Tiny Dogs Tiny Fares

Virgin America is notorious for launching “fare sales” as part of their annual Cyber Monday promotion, which is the driving force behind this campaign effort.

We needed to concept and execute a socially driven “Cyber Monday” digital campaign that also connects and promotes “Operation Chihuahua,” a charitable event that Virgin America participates in annually.

Apparently there’s a surplus of Chihuahuas in California and a shortage of them in New York City, hence the annual event, Operation Chihuahua. Virgin America partnered with the SPCA / San Francisco Animal Care & Control and helped alleviate this problem by flying Chihuahuas from San Francisco to the New York area so that they can be quickly adopted to fine loving homes. Virgin America will host a red-carpet send-off at the departure gate in San Francisco International Airport with up to 30 Chihuahuas.

It’s pretty funny - until it happens to you. It’s time to end this gag for good. Loyalty with other bland airlines is a joke, with Virgin America you get the last laugh. We turned “flyer fail” characters into mesmerizing looped GIFs, making the same mistake again and again. Their faces were obscured to protect them from humiliation. The “pink button” activated a sad trombone sound.

Working with Virgin America's on their social platforms, we created everything from new destination posts (by merging the Virgin plane tail with recognizable icons from different cities), to their amazing amenities on board and even the different moon cycles - why not.
